Jake Paul is gearing up for what could be the most anticipated boxing match of the summer as he prepares to face off against legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson. The bout, scheduled for July 20th, will be streamed on Netflix and is set to take place in front of a massive crowd of 85,000 fans at AT&T Stadium in Texas, typically home to the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.
Since the announcement of the match, fans have been buzzing with mixed reactions. While many are excited to see the YouTuber-turned-boxer take on a boxing icon like Tyson, others have criticized Paul for choosing to fight Tyson, who is now 57 years old and far past his prime. On fight night, there will be a 31-year age gap between the two fighters.
Despite the age difference, Tyson has been impressing fans with his recent training clips, showcasing his signature power and speed. Paul himself has expressed eagerness to face Tyson and experience firsthand the power that made him a legend in the heavyweight division.
In a recent podcast, Paul discussed the origins of the fight and his decision to face Tyson instead of pursuing a rematch with Tommy Fury.
"I want to see how hard he hits," Paul said. "Let’s see all the legends, the myths, because you’re ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. But I have an iron chin, people know that. I take shots so, I think people are underestimating me being able to deal with his power and that is something that will make it interesting obviously."
Despite the magnitude of the event, Paul appears unfazed by the pressure.
"There’s no nerves at all," he said. "I’m excited, I literally can’t wait to look across the ring and see him and give him a f*cking death stare… The fact that it’s on Netflix, I think that’s really going to revolutionize the game of boxing."
With both fighters eager to make a statement in the ring, this match is shaping up to be a must-watch event for boxing fans everywhere.
