Igor Severino's Redemption: From UFC Controversy to a Fresh Start with Oktagon MMA
Igor Severino

Brazilian MMA prospect Igor Severino is set to start a new chapter in his fighting career after signing with Oktagon MMA. The 21-year-old talent, who boasts an impressive 8-1 record, faced a significant setback earlier this year after a controversial incident during his UFC debut.

Severino’s promising UFC journey took a sharp turn when he was disqualified for biting his opponent, Andre Lima, at a UFC Fight Night event in March. This unsportsmanlike conduct led to his immediate release from the UFC, marking a low point in what had otherwise been a successful career. The incident quickly went viral, especially after Lima decided to commemorate the bizarre moment by getting the bite marks tattooed on his arm.

Following the disqualification, the Nevada Athletic Commission handed Severino a nine-month suspension, alongside a $2,000 fine and additional prosecution fees. Initially, Severino agreed to a six-month suspension, but the commission extended the penalty, emphasizing the need for strict measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Severino’s suspension will lift on December 23, allowing him to resume his career with a clean slate.

Oktagon MMA, a rising force in the MMA world, will now be the stage for Severino’s comeback. Despite the controversy surrounding his UFC exit, Severino remains a formidable fighter with significant potential. His new contract with Oktagon MMA offers him a chance to rebuild his reputation and continue his journey in the sport. His move to Oktagon MMA signals not only a fresh start but also a test of his resilience and determination to rise above past mistakes.
