Ian Machado Garry Calls Out Covington: He’s Avoiding Me Like the Plague

Ian Machado Garry: I accepted UFC offer to fight Colby Covington, but 'he's avoiding me like the plague'

UFC rising star Ian Machado Garry is ready to step up and face one of the biggest names in the welterweight division—Colby Covington. However, according to Garry, the only thing holding up the fight is Covington himself.

Garry, undefeated with a 15-0 record, recently shared on social media that the UFC offered him a fight with Covington a month ago. Garry accepted immediately but claims he hasn't heard back from Covington.

“A month ago, I was offered a fight with Colby Covington. It took me 20 seconds to respond to the email saying, ‘Yes, I’m in.’ A month later, we’ve still got no response from Colby," Garry said in an Instagram video. "He’s avoiding me like the plague."

Covington, a former UFC interim champion and three-time title challenger, hasn’t fought since his loss to Leon Edwards in December 2023. Despite Garry’s callouts, Covington has denied ever receiving an offer for the fight, stating he’s focused on securing bigger matchups. But for Garry, this silence speaks volumes.

Garry has been on a tear in 2024, securing wins over Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in February and a striking victory against Michael Page at UFC 303 in June. Now, with his sights set on Covington, Garry is determined to make the fight happen, putting the pressure back on Covington to respond.

Is Covington avoiding Garry, or is he aiming for other opportunities? For now, Garry remains confident that the ball is in Covington’s court—and he’s ready to make a statement.
