Rising UFC star Ian Machado Garry is aiming to elevate his upcoming fight with Michael Page at UFC 303 to a five-round co-main event. Scheduled for June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Garry (14-0) is set to face Page (22-2) in a welterweight showdown. Although the bout is currently listed as the main card opener, Garry is pushing for a higher-stakes matchup.
Garry took to Instagram to share his ambitions, fresh off an intense training session.
"I just finished a really good training session," Garry said. "I’m feeling fresh, I’m feeling ready, I just did five rounds. I’m going to get on the phone to Hunter (Campbell) and the UFC today and let’s push for a five-round co-main for this. Let’s push it. This is a fight that we are representing the Irish, ‘MVP’ get ready for 25 minutes of pain."
Garry, who remains undefeated, has already proven his endurance by going five rounds once in his career. In June 2021, he captured the vacant Cage Warriors welterweight title by defeating Jack Grant. His impressive performance in that bout earned him a contract with the UFC.
On the other hand, Michael "MVP" Page, a dynamic and experienced fighter, has also gone the distance in his career. He secured a unanimous decision victory over Paul Daley in the Bellator welterweight grand prix quarterfinal in February 2019 and faced Logan Storley in an interim title fight in May 2022, which ended in a split decision loss.
The clash between Garry and Page promises to be an exciting encounter, with both fighters eager to make a statement. Garry's push for a five-round fight demonstrates his confidence and readiness to showcase his skills on a larger platform. If approved, this could provide fans with a thrilling and extended battle, highlighting the talents of both competitors.
As UFC 303 approaches, all eyes will be on whether the UFC grants Garry's request for a five-round co-main event. Regardless of the fight's length, the matchup between Garry and Page is set to be a highlight of the night, promising intense action and high-level MMA competition.
