Historic Boxing Event in Durango: Camacho Jr vs. Hernandez for Middleweight Title
Hector Camacho Jr

Durango, Colorado, is set to host its first professional boxing event in over a century, bringing the excitement of a title fight to the historic town. On October 12, the La Plata County Fairgrounds will come alive with "Legends on the Animas," an action-packed day featuring ten amateur bouts and three professional fights, culminating in a thrilling main event.

The headline fight will see Hector “Macho” Camacho Jr face off against Andrew “Hurricane” Hernandez for the vacant LBF Middleweight World Championship Title, marking the first title fight in Durango since 1915.

This highly anticipated event is not just about boxing; it's a full-day experience for the community. The festivities will include live music, a variety of vendors, and unique entertainment, such as pillow fighting, offering something for everyone. The event will be a celebration of the sport and the local community, combining high-level competition with a festival-like atmosphere.

Katy Kopec, the event promoter and founder of The Good Fight Boxing Gym in downtown Durango, expressed her enthusiasm for bringing professional boxing back to the town.

“We are so excited to introduce these legends of boxing to our community, give our guests a full day of high-level entertainment and bring a brand new industry to Durango,” Kopec stated.

Her vision is to not only entertain but also inspire the local youth, showcasing how boxing can be a powerful tool for personal growth.

In the lead-up to the event, Camacho Jr. will be living and training in Durango, engaging with young athletes at The Good Fight Boxing Gym. The son of the legendary Hector Camacho, who was a world champion in three different weight classes, Camacho Jr. has a deep understanding of the sport's impact on individuals and communities. With a professional record of 67 fights, including 58 wins (32 by knockout), Camacho Jr. brings a wealth of experience and a storied career to this historic event.

Durango is poised to witness a momentous occasion, as the boxing world converges on this picturesque town for a day that will go down in history. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this monumental event, where history and high-stakes competition come together in the heart of Colorado.
