Henry Cejudo: “Jose Aldo is the Featherweight GOAT not Volkanovski”

Alexander Volkanovski continued to build his legacy as one of the best mixed martial artists in the world this past weekend, as he defended his UFC Featherweight Championship for the fifth time.

Before the UFC 290 pay-per-view on July 8, Volkanovski had overcome two attempts from Max Holloway and one each from Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” to take his title, which he won from “Blessed” in 2019.

In his most recent fight, he faced Yair Rodríguez, who had interim gold around his waist, after he submitted Josh Emmett at UFC 284 in Perth this past February.

With that win, many have claimed that “Alexander the Great” has established himself as the best ever in the division. But one person who is familiar with being in GOAT debates, does not agree.

In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo shared his thoughts on all the action at UFC 290."

"If I was in Volkanovski's shoes... I would fight Islam," Cejudo said. "You have six (five) title defenses now. You're two (three) away from beating José Aldo for the most title defenses in featherweight history. But, you go up a weight class, win the lightweight title... That puts you in a different category.
"As of right now, just based off of numbers, José Aldo is still the best featherweight of all time. Just based off numbers," Cejudo continued. "I'm not saying the best-ever featherweight, but through facts and through numbers, it's still José Aldo. Numbers do not lie."
