A clash of grappling titans is set to ignite the Ball Arena in Denver, United States, at ONE 168. Flyweight submission grappling champion Mikey Musumeci is stepping up to challenge the reigning ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion, Kade Ruotolo, on September 6.
Ruotolo, hailing from California, has emerged as one of the most dominant champions in ONE Championship, boasting an undefeated streak since his debut in 2022.
Holding the lightweight submission grappling title since its inception, Ruotolo recently showcased his skills by defeating Brazilian standout Francisco Lo in a 180-pound non-title catchweight contest.
Despite moving up a division, Musumeci is no stranger to facing larger opponents. In a notable victory, he submitted former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Shinya Aoki with Aoki's own signature "Aoki Lock" last October. Musumeci's upcoming bout against Ruotolo marks his official transition to the lightweight division.
While Musumeci prepares for his new challenge, he also has a revenge match booked at bantamweight against Gabriel Souza at ONE 167.
Having defended his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title three times since claiming it in 2022, Musumeci is now embarking on a new chapter in his career, seeking fresh challenges and opportunities for growth.
