The Global Fight League (GFL) is making waves in the combat sports world with its highly anticipated debut. Founded by Darren Owen, the team-based league has officially revealed its first set of matchups, featuring a thrilling rematch between former UFC middleweight champions Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold.
Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold first clashed in December 2015 at UFC 194, where Rockhold secured a fourth-round TKO victory, ending Weidman’s undefeated streak and middleweight title reign. Now, nearly a decade later, the two warriors are set to run it back under the GFL banner.
Weidman, who retired after a knockout loss at UFC 310, shocked fans by reversing his decision to sign with GFL. This comeback fight against Rockhold will be his promotional debut. Meanwhile, Rockhold has had mixed success post-UFC, with losses in BKFC but a recent knockout win in Karate Combat.
