Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr., who faced Devin Haney twice on home soil in Australia in 2022, has offered his insights into Haney's upcoming bout against Ryan Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Kambosos, familiar with Haney's dominant skill set, expressed his confidence in the undefeated Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), who enters the fight as a heavy favorite against Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).
In an interview with BoxingScene, Kambosos shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated matchup, stating,
"I cannot see Garcia winning this fight. I think Devin is just getting better and better and I think it's going to be too much for him."
Garcia, who came in over the 140-pound weight limit on Friday, faces an uphill battle against Haney's formidable abilities, according to Kambosos. Despite acknowledging Garcia's toughness and speed, Kambosos believes Haney's strategic prowess will ultimately secure him the victory.
Reflecting on his own experiences against Haney, Kambosos noted,
"Devin makes you fight his fight. I tried everything and he makes you feel you are fighting his fight."
Looking ahead, Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) is set to square off against Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs), who previously lost to Haney in a spirited unanimous decision last May.
