Taila Santos and Erin Blanchfield are finally scheduled to fight at UFC Singapore on August 26 in a highly anticipated matchup that has major implications for the women's flyweight title situation.
Santos, who is currently ranked third, hasn't competed inside the Octagon since losing her belt at UFC 275 in Singapore. She came up short in winning the title despite a solid showing that many thought was deserved of victory. Unfortunately, she was unable to get a quick rematch and was instead set to compete against rising talent Erin Blanchfield in February.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Santos was forced to withdraw from the bout on short notice as her cornermen were unable to secure visas for the United States. This setback left Santos sidelined for an extended period.
Now, the Brazilian fighter is eager to step back into the cage and take on Blanchfield, and interestingly, the fight will take place in the very same venue where Santos suffered her previous defeat.
Both athletes will be aiming to win a flyweight championship in the future. Prior to her unsuccessful attempt to defeat Valentina Shevchenko, Santos had won four straight matches, including a significant submission victory over Joanne Wood. She received the Performance of the Night bonus for her outstanding performance.
