Erin Blanchfield Overcomes Slow Start to Defeat Rose Namajunas, Calls Out Alexa Grasso
UFC Edmonton: Erin Blanchfield vs. Rose Namajunas

Erin Blanchfield showcased resilience and strategic acumen to secure a comeback victory over former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in the five-round co-main event at UFC Edmonton. The fight started with a tough two rounds for “Cold Blooded,” but she rallied in the latter half to claim a unanimous decision. Judges scored the contest 48-47 in favor of Blanchfield, marking an important rebound for her after a close loss to Manon Fiorot earlier this year at UFC Atlantic City.

Namajunas initially controlled the fight, showing superior stand-up skills and a strong defensive ground game. During the first round, both fighters engaged in a standing exchange where Blanchfield had her moments, but Namajunas displayed sharper striking. The second round saw Blanchfield attempt her first takedown, only to have Namajunas reverse the momentum and bring the fight to the mat herself. Though Namajunas opted to return to her feet, she continued to outpace Blanchfield in the striking department.

Momentum shifted in the third round when Blanchfield capitalized on a Namajunas takedown attempt, quickly reversing to gain top control. Blanchfield’s nearly four minutes of control time kept Namajunas pinned, effectively changing the fight’s pace heading into the fourth round. With renewed aggression, Blanchfield won early striking exchanges in the fourth round and closed the distance to press Namajunas against the fence, showcasing a mix of clinch control and striking exchanges.

In the fifth round, Blanchfield intensified her offense, landing a powerful shot that staggered Namajunas. She then executed a seamless takedown, achieving side control and maneuvering into the crucifix position. Although Namajunas managed to stand again with under a minute left, Blanchfield maintained relentless pressure against the cage until the final horn.

After securing this significant victory, Blanchfield expressed her interest in facing former flyweight champion Alexa Grasso, who recently lost her title to Valentina Shevchenko. The loss marks a setback for Namajunas, snapping her two-fight win streak and bringing her record to 2-2 at flyweight.
