Eddie Hearn has dismissed the idea of Chris Eubank Jr. facing Mexican boxing star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, laughing off the notion.
Canelo is currently seeking an opponent for a fight in Las Vegas on May 4, with TV Azteca confirming that his next challenger would be American. Despite Eubank Jr.'s interest, Hearn sees financial hurdles in making the fight a reality.
Eubank Jr., with a record of 33-3 (24 KOs), recently avenged a loss to Liam Smith with a 10th round stoppage in September. However, Hearn pointed out that Eubank Jr.'s recent victories were against a light middleweight in Smith, who had previously knocked him out. Hearn also highlighted Eubank Jr.'s reluctance to face welterweight Conor Benn, questioning the move to jump up to 168 pounds to challenge Canelo.
In a previous interview, Chris Eubank Sr. had stated that his son needed to defeat Canelo to redeem his career, emphasizing the importance of the potential matchup. However, Hearn suggested that such a fight would not be feasible financially, given Canelo's high asking price and questioned Eubank Jr.'s standing in the sport.
