Welterweight contender Blair Cobbs has recently inked a deal with Don King Promotions and has been lined up for a high-profile bout against Adrien Broner. However, a shadow of doubt looms over the fight, as a recent press release hinted at uncertainties surrounding Broner's participation.
The scheduled showdown between Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KOs) and Broner (35-4-1, 24 KO) is set to take place on June 7 at the Seminole Hard Rock in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Originally intended as a headline attraction, the fight will now serve as an undercard bout to the main event, a WBC cruiserweight title fight between Norair Mikaeljan and Ryan Rozicki.
Cobbs, who is currently training in Las Vegas under Justin Gamber, former trainer of Caleb Plant, expressed his determination to reignite his career with a victory over Broner, despite being inactive for over a year-and-a-half.
The uncertainty surrounding Broner's commitment to the fight stems from his history of inconsistency, including missing a press conference for a previous bout and having another fight canceled. Reports suggest that Broner has recently changed trainers, now working with Calvin Ford, trainer of Gervonta Davis.
Despite the doubts, Cobbs remains confident that Broner will show up for the fight.
“The whole ‘If Broner shows up’ is because Don King is tired of this thing with Broner," Cobbs stated confidently.
The matchup between Cobbs and Broner is highly anticipated, with Cobbs asserting, “The main attraction is always going to be me and AB." Cobbs aims to make a statement in the ring, declaring, “Prepare for pain. Blair The Flair is coming to fight him and stop him – and Blair The Flair is going to beat him.”
