Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is gearing up for a sensational comeback to the UFC in 2025, with the goal of achieving a career milestone: 50 fights under the UFC and WEC banners. At 41, the fan-favorite fighter has re-entered the Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) testing pool, marking his commitment to this ambitious return.
“I just re-entered the testing pool, so I have to be six months clean,” Cerrone said .
Probably June or July we’ll make the comeback. I’m coming back for two more. Just two more. I want 50 fights [under the] UFC [umbrella].
“I promised the wife no matter what happens, no matter the outcome, two more and that’s it… I think it’ll be [at middleweight].”
Cerrone’s last octagon appearance was in July 2022, where he suffered a second-round submission loss to Jim Miller, capping a challenging six-fight losing streak. His most recent victory came in May 2019 against Al Iaquinta. Despite his setbacks, Cerrone remains determined to leave a lasting legacy.
For Cerrone, who currently holds 48 combined UFC and WEC fights, the motivation is more than just the numbers. It’s about closing the chapter on his own terms. UFC CEO Dana White, however, has voiced his concerns over Cerrone’s decision to return.
“I hate it. I hate it,” White admitted. “Love him, hate that... Cerrone shouldn’t think about fighting again. Cerrone needs to think about what’s next. He should have been thinking about it two years ago, but apparently, he didn’t, and he needs to. But we’re here for him. We love Cerrone. We’ll help in any way we can. I don’t want to see him get punched in the face anymore.”
As Cerrone prepares for his return, fans can’t help but be excited to see Cowboy ride again, even if only for two more fights. Whether the results bring triumph or simply closure, Cerrone’s legacy as a UFC legend is firmly cemented.
