Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is set to return to the octagon, ending his brief MMA retirement. The UFC veteran initially stepped away from the sport after suffering a second-round submission loss to Jim Miller at UFC 276 in July 2022, which marked his sixth consecutive defeat. After 48 total UFC and WEC appearances and 55 professional fights, Cerrone now aims to hit the milestone of 50 fights under the Zuffa banner.
“I want to go back [to the UFC] and get two more fights,” Cerrone said, hinting at his ambitions. “The number 50 has been sitting on my mind for a while.”
In the years since retiring, Cerrone has been undergoing testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and using peptides for recovery and fitness purposes. However, the 41-year-old fighter plans to come off these treatments in preparation for re-entering the UFC’s drug-testing pool.
“For all you people who are like, ‘Oh, what if you get on it, you can’t ever come off?’ Well, I now have to come off and piss clean,” he confirmed, reassuring fans that he’s ready to comply with testing protocols.
Following his retirement, Cerrone was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s class of 2023, cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s most exciting competitors. Cerrone holds several records, including the most combined UFC and WEC post-fight bonuses with 23, showcasing his thrilling performances throughout his career.
While a specific return date has yet to be confirmed, “Cowboy” is eager to step back into the octagon within the next few months. Fans can expect the UFC legend to deliver two final thrilling performances before officially hanging up his gloves.
