Diego Lopes is laser-focused on his UFC journey, with his sights firmly set on a featherweight title fight. Fresh off a career-defining win at UFC 306, where he defeated two-time title challenger Brian Ortega, Lopes leaped to No. 3 in the UFC Featherweight Rankings. But while fans speculate about a rematch with Movsar Evloev, Lopes has other plans in mind.

Lopes previously faced Evloev on short notice in May 2023, losing via decision. However, since that bout, Lopes has been on a tear, winning five consecutive fights, three of which ended in impressive finishes. Despite Evloev's recent callout for a rematch at UFC 307, Lopes is hesitant to accept the fight under the current conditions.

“The only possibility this fight happens is if the UFC really says, ‘OK, you fight him and win, and you’re next for the belt,’ ” Lopes said in a recent interview. “That’s the only way this fight happens at the moment, and I want a full camp.”

For Lopes, it’s about fair preparation and the opportunity to rise to the top.

While Evloev awaits a response, Lopes is setting his sights on even bigger opponents—most notably, former UFC featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski. Lopes sees a potential showdown with Volkanovski in December as a marquee event, one that could fast-track him to title contention.

“He doesn’t like to wait, and neither do I, so that could be a good fight,” said Lopes.

With Volkanovski’s recent struggles in the cage, Lopes sees an opportunity to capitalize on his momentum.

For now, Lopes is eyeing his options: either a spot as a backup fighter for the UFC 308 main event in Abu Dhabi or a headline clash with Volkanovski. Either way, Diego Lopes is ready to make his mark in the UFC featherweight division.
