In a candid interview, PFL co-founder Donn Davis shared his thoughts on Kayla Harrison’s move to the UFC, suggesting she left to avoid potential matchups with Cris Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco. According to Davis, these fights would have cemented Harrison’s legacy as one of the best in the sport, but her move to the UFC left these possibilities unfulfilled.
Harrison’s MMA career, which began after a successful Olympic judo stint, saw her rise to stardom in the PFL with a remarkable [17-1] record. Davis expressed both pride in Harrison's accomplishments and disappointment in her decision to leave PFL. He emphasized that Harrison’s legacy-defining fights would have been a rematch with Pacheco, who handed her the only loss of her career, and a showdown with Cyborg, widely regarded as one of the greatest female fighters in MMA history.
In the interview, Davis stated:
“I think those are the two toughest fights ahead of Kayla. I don’t like that she ran from those. I don’t like that, and that she ran to a brand to validate herself. I think so highly of Kayla Harrison, she doesn’t need a brand to validate her. She’s that great.”
Despite Harrison’s recent success in the UFC, including her dominant win over Holly Holm, Davis's comments spark speculation about what could have been if she had stayed in the PFL. Fans of the sport now await the PFL PPV card on Oct. 19, where Cyborg and Pacheco will clash in a fight that might have included Harrison if things had played out differently.
