Daniel Cormier Doesn't Think Conor McGregor Will Box Logan Paul

Conor McGregor is a name synonymous with mixed martial arts, fame, and controversy. The Irish superstar has transcended the UFC, becoming a global icon, but his journey hasn’t been without turbulence. From historic victories in the Octagon to legal troubles and public scandals, McGregor's legacy is as complicated as it is captivating.

Most recently, McGregor has once again stirred the pot by claiming he’s agreed to an exhibition boxing match against none other than Logan Paul. The match, rumored to take place in India, would be yet another unconventional move for the former two-division UFC champion. McGregor has hinted that this bout will serve as a precursor to his long-awaited return to MMA competition.

But not everyone is on board with this plan—most notably, UFC commentator and former heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

Daniel Cormier’s Perspective

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Cormier expressed skepticism about McGregor’s proposed fight with Paul, citing the UFC star’s track record of unfulfilled promises in recent years.

“We talk about impact. That right there tells you the impact of Conor McGregor,” Cormier said. “Conor McGregor has told us a lot of things over the last three years. None of them have come to fruition. I’m gonna have to see it to believe it.”

Cormier didn’t stop there. He emphasized that for McGregor, returning to the Octagon should be a priority—both for his career and his legacy.

“I think he’s gonna fight in the Octagon. I think he has to, though,” Cormier continued. “For Conor McGregor to – he’s got to rinse some of the stench off of him from everything that’s happened outside of the Octagon. Where he made his home is inside that cage, and I think at some point he’s gonna have to get back there.”

McGregor’s Rocky Road

It’s hard to argue with Cormier’s assessment. McGregor’s last official fight took place in July 2021, when he suffered a devastating leg injury against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, his headlines have revolved more around personal controversies than athletic achievements.

The idea of McGregor facing Logan Paul—a YouTuber-turned-boxer—may excite casual fans, but it raises questions about whether McGregor is more focused on spectacle than competition.

Fight Fans: What’s Next?

For years, fans have clamored for McGregor to return to the Octagon and reclaim the form that made him a UFC legend. However, every announcement seems to come with a caveat or a detour, leaving many skeptical about what’s real and what’s just talk.

As for Cormier, his message is clear: McGregor belongs in the Octagon, where he built his legacy—not in a boxing ring chasing exhibition paydays.

What do you think, fight fans? Will McGregor and Paul step into the ring, or will this go down as another unfulfilled chapter in McGregor’s unpredictable career? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
