Former WWE star Cody Rhodes recently shared that he once contemplated making a move into mixed martial arts (MMA). Despite his current status as one of professional wrestling's top talents, Rhodes revealed that he had considered transitioning into MMA several years ago.
Notably, Rhodes played a pivotal role in the formation of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a promotion that has since risen to prominence as one of the industry's leading organizations.
Following his departure from WWE, Rhodes made a high-profile return at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. Since then, he has achieved significant success, headlining WrestleMania 39 and securing victories, including winning tag team titles alongside Jey Uso.
His accomplishments have solidified his position as one of WWE's most prominent figures. Additionally, Rhodes is set to compete in the 2024 men's Royal Rumble match, an event he previously won a year ago.
In a recent interview, Rhodes reflected on his past consideration of a potential MMA career. Despite being a two-time amateur wrestling state champion in high school, he acknowledged the challenges of transitioning from professional wrestling to MMA. Rhodes expressed his curiosity about how wrestlers like himself would fare in MMA, citing the athleticism and toughness of fellow wrestlers like Bobby Lashley.
When asked about his personal interest in pursuing MMA, Rhodes revealed that he had discussed the idea with his wife, but she had firmly opposed it. He admitted to contemplating the move, possibly driven by a desire for a significant financial opportunity. However, he recognized that his wife's concerns and opposition were valid and acknowledged that her decision was likely for the best.
In a lighthearted response to the question of a potential MMA opponent, Rhodes humorously suggested that he would prefer to face the "worst guy possible" for his debut, jokingly referring to it as a "freebie upfront."
