In a highly anticipated intergender Superfight, Craig Jones and Gabi Garcia finally faced off at the Craig Jones Invitational and it delivered on all the hype. With the eyes of the grappling world on them the bout came to a dramatic conclusion at 4:39 of the second round, when Jones secured a rear naked choke, forcing Garcia to submit.

The match itself was filled with tension, especially considering Jones had bet that he would win via leglock. Early on he had Garcia in a precarious position, nearly securing the submission. But in a surprising turn Garcia refused to tap and Jones displaying a sense of sportsmanship, chose not to break her limbs. This decision ultimately led him to shift strategies and go for the choke, sealing his victory.

This fight was more than just a physical contest—it was symbolic. Gabi Garcia had chosen to forgo her induction into the ADCC Hall of Fame this year to compete in this bout. For her it was about more than titles or accolades; it was a testament to the evolution of the sport and her dedication to it.

In the post-fight press conference, an emotional Garcia reflected on what the moment meant for her. “I want to cry because I see all this,” she said. “Thank you, Craig, for what he did for the sport, it’s amazing... I believe our sport can be bigger than ever, and today I win this match because everybody... I call it self-respect because I do what I want and I don’t give a f*** about nothing.”

She went on to dedicate her performance to her late brother and her family, expressing her appreciation for the grappling community, which she called her "other family."

Jones, for his part, was impressed with Garcia’s dedication and sacrifice. He acknowledged her decision to skip the ADCC Hall of Fame induction, calling it “kind of crazy” but also a powerful statement of commitment to the sport. He took the opportunity to announce his intentions to “take over ADCC,” adding that he and his team could do an even better job.

This match, long speculated and discussed, proved to be a defining moment for both athletes. Craig Jones’ victory solidified his dominance, while Gabi Garcia’s decision to compete against the odds highlighted the passion that drives the sport of grappling. In the end it wasn’t just about a winner or loser—it was about pushing boundaries and demonstrating the mutual respect that grappling athletes have for one another, no matter the result.
