Corey Anderson has accused Vadim Nemkov of backing out of their highly anticipated trilogy fight, stirring controversy just weeks before the PFL event scheduled for Jan. 25 in Dubai.
The rivalry between Anderson and Nemkov seemed poised for an explosive conclusion after PFL announced their third showdown. However, Anderson claims that Nemkov, the reigning Bellator light heavyweight champion, abruptly withdrew. Sharing his frustration in a candid Instagram post, Anderson revealed the unexpected twist:
"Breaking announcement folks, the trilogy will not be happening. Woke up to a text this morning from PFL and Bellator saying ‘Vadim refuses to fight you.’ Verbatim their words is ‘you’re too tough of a fight for him. That’s what he says but he wants to stay on the card and fight a lesser opponent. Can’t make this stuff up.”
Anderson didn’t hold back, questioning Nemkov’s status as a top fighter and accusing him of dodging a tough challenge. The proposed fight carried significant weight, given the history between the two. Their first encounter ended in a no-contest after an accidental clash of heads, though Anderson had been dominant. In the rematch, Nemkov decisively defeated Anderson, securing a unanimous decision victory and the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix title.
Nemkov’s recent success includes a heavyweight submission win over Bruno Cappelozza, but his apparent reluctance to face Anderson again has sparked criticism. Meanwhile, Anderson is left in limbo. He recently captured the vacant light heavyweight title in March but has been sidelined since, voicing frustration over his lack of activity.
Despite Nemkov’s withdrawal, the PFL event in Dubai remains a high-profile showcase, though fans are disappointed by the absence of the trilogy. For Anderson, the wait continues as he hopes for a new matchup to reignite his career momentum.
