Conor McGregor has once again stirred the MMA world, teasing his return to the Octagon after more than two years of recovery. Last seen in July 2021, McGregor has been on the mend since suffering a broken leg during his second consecutive TKO loss to Dustin Poirier. Despite numerous hints of a comeback, McGregor has yet to finalize a fight date, leaving fans wondering when—and against whom—his next bout will be.
Initially, a showdown with Michael Chandler seemed inevitable, with the fight being in the works for nearly two years. UFC announced a headlining match between the two, only for McGregor to pull out, leaving fans in suspense. As time moved on, so did Chandler, who now faces Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. But McGregor's return is still in the air, and this time, Dan Hooker is in the picture.
During a recent BKFC event in Spain, McGregor, now part-owner of the promotion, dropped a bombshell: a potential fight with Dan Hooker in Saudi Arabia on February 1st. McGregor shared this while swiftly exiting after the event, sparking immediate excitement. Hooker, who attended the same event, confirmed the news on Submission Radio.
“I’m on board. He’s on board. We need to get the UFC on board and we’ll get this thing across the line,” Hooker revealed, making it clear both fighters are ready for the showdown.
Hooker has long expressed interest in facing McGregor, while the Irish superstar has hinted at wanting to fight Chandler still but is open to taking on another opponent in the meantime.
While UFC President Dana White has suggested McGregor's return might not happen until 2025, McGregor's latest remarks indicate he is pushing for an earlier date. However, the ball now seems to be in the UFC's court to make it official.
