Conor McGregor, one of the UFC's most iconic fighters, has announced that he won’t return to the octagon until 2025, extending his absence from competition to nearly 1,200 days. The former two-division champion, who has not fought since his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, addressed his future during a live interview with Ariel Helwani, which aired during the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois heavyweight fight.

“One thing is for sure,” McGregor stated. “Whenever it is and wherever it is, I will be 100 percent ready. That’s all I can focus on right now.”

McGregor was originally scheduled to face Michael Chandler this year, but he withdrew from the bout due to an injury. Chandler has since moved on to a new opponent for a fight set in November. Despite the setback, McGregor expressed a positive outlook.

“It is what it is,” he said. “I just take it on board and just rock on. My job is to just go to the gym, be in the gym, be in shape.”

At 36 years old, McGregor has faced considerable challenges in recent years, losing three of his last four bouts. His last fight ended dramatically, with McGregor suffering a broken leg in the first round against Poirier. These struggles have raised questions about whether McGregor can return to his previous form, which saw him win the UFC featherweight title in 2015 and the lightweight title in 2016.

McGregor’s extended absence has fueled speculation about his future in MMA, but the Irish superstar remains committed to making a comeback. Although his return has been delayed until 2025, McGregor assures fans that he will be fully prepared when the time comes.

With his layoff approaching 1,200 days, all eyes will be on McGregor to see if he can once again rise to the top of the UFC ranks after such a long hiatus.
