Rolando "Rolly" Romero has the confidence of his former trainer Bullet Cromwell to keep his WBA light welterweight belt against Isaac Cruz. Both boxing enthusiasts and specialists are paying attention to the much awaited bout, which is scheduled for March 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Amazon Prime Video PPV.
The former trainer of Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs), Bullet Cromwell, feels that his former pupil has a major edge against 'Pitbull' Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) in terms of stature, power, and talent. Rolly's disputed victory over Ismael Barroso in May of last year and critiques of his boxing technique notwithstanding, Cromwell is still optimistic about Rolly's prospects.
"Rolly's style is more challenging than Pitbull Cruz's." We are aware of Rolly's odd manner. Pitbull is not a jabber. He needs to enter," said Cromwell. He claims that Rolly can minimise hazards by controlling the fight from the outside with his reach and force.
Cromwell's support for Rolly is a reflection of his own training heritage. He hopes the methods he taught Rolly's current trainers are kept up to date. "I hope these trainers don't make any changes to him because if they do, it will be the last of him. Continue using what Bullet provided you. He will succeed," he said.
Recognising Cruz's aggressive approach and fitness, Cromwell concedes that Cruz may be a threat to Rolly if he lands a blow. Nevertheless, he is adamant that Rolly will prevail because of his greater strength and expertise.
This fight is very important for Rolly's career. A victory would confirm his title as the WBA light welterweight champion, while a defeat may have a big effect on his reputation in the boxing community.
