The main event for the next UFC Fight Night event in Paris has been set: Ciryl Gane will compete against fellow top heavyweight contender Serghei Spivac.
It was reported earlier this month that a card would take place on September 2, which is nearly a year to the day of the promotion's inaugural event in France last year. This announcement sealed the UFC's return to the French capital.
Dana White provided fight fans some happy news by announcing the main events for UFC events in Paris, Singapore, and Nashville when the combat sports world was mostly preoccupied by the sexual assault claims made against Conor McGregor earlier in the day.
After losing a heavyweight title match against Francis Ngannou, Gane defeated Tuivasa in his subsequent fight, and after "The Predator" left the UFC earlier this year, the Frenchman was put up against Jon Jones for the vacant heavyweight championship. The former light heavyweight champion submitted "Bon Gamin" in little over two minutes, and now this fight with Spivac is a chance for him to rebound in his native nation.
After losing to Tom Aspinall in the first round in 2021, Spivac has now won three straight fights, matching his UFC career's greatest winning run. He will face Gane as the UFC's eighth-ranked heavyweight after his outstanding most recent victory over former heavyweight title contender Derrick Lewis.
