UFC 310 delivered a thrilling rematch between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov, culminating in a contentious split decision victory for Gane. While the Frenchman walked away with the win, his post-fight demeanor reflected anything but triumph.

“It was really tight,”

Gane admitted during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

“He did a really good job. I know I put him in some situations in danger. I’m not happy about the fight. I broke my toes in the first second of the fight. I’m not happy about the fight. I’m happy about the decision. I worked a lot. I’m not happy.”

The bout started explosively, with Volkov landing an early takedown. Gane quickly recovered, retaliating with a powerful double-leg takedown. However, his attempt to secure a heel hook backfired, giving Volkov the opportunity to escape. The first round ended in a showcase of grappling and counterattacks, setting the stage for a grueling contest.

In the second round, Volkov landed a stunning spinning back fist and a follow-up head kick that visibly shook Gane. Operating cautiously, Gane retaliated with a heavy right hand and moments of grappling exchanges that underscored the fight’s intensity.

The third round saw Volkov press the action with more grappling, while Gane countered with a kimura attempt from the bottom. Time slipped away with both fighters locked in a ground stalemate, Volkov landing light punches and Gane unable to mount significant resistance.

Despite Volkov appearing to edge the final two rounds, the judges scored the fight 29-28 twice for Gane, with one judge favoring Volkov. The decision left fans and Volkov himself frustrated, as he exchanged words with UFC CEO Dana White before exiting.

For Gane, the victory may position him for a title shot against interim champion Tom Aspinall. Yet, the controversial nature of the win and his evident dissatisfaction suggest he’ll aim for a more convincing performance in his next outing.
