The highly anticipated BKFC 65 main event fell flat as Christine Ferea successfully defended her flyweight title against Jade Masson-Wong in what many have called a lackluster performance. The five-round battle, which ended in a split decision, left the crowd in Salt Lake City disappointed, as the fight failed to deliver the action-packed spectacle that fans have come to expect from Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
BKFC president David Feldman didn't hold back when addressing the fight at the post-fight press conference, expressing his frustration with both fighters.
“I thought it was f*cking awful honestly,” Feldman said. “Awful. One of the worst main events we’ve ever had in history. One of the worst women’s fights we’ve ever had.”
Known for its viral knockouts and high-octane brawls, BKFC prides itself on thrilling, intense fights, but Ferea vs. Masson-Wong offered neither. Feldman was particularly critical of Masson-Wong, who had the opportunity to dethrone Ferea but failed to bring the necessary aggression to claim the championship.
However, Feldman didn’t spare Ferea from criticism either, despite her record-breaking fourth title defense.
“If you’re fighting for the championship... you’ve got to be willing to go out on your shield,” Feldman said. “It didn’t look like either woman really wanted to get hit tonight.”
While the Salt Lake City crowd made their discontent known with boos, Feldman acknowledged their frustration and promised better events in the future. The promotion has already planned several more events in Salt Lake City, and fans can expect a much more exciting spectacle.
In a bid to close out the year on a high note, Feldman teased a potential "megafight" featuring fan favorite Mike Perry, which he anticipates announcing soon.
