ONE Championship has announced the signing of Chinese kickboxing star Wei Rui, marking his official entry into the world's largest martial arts organization. Renowned for his striking skills, Wei Rui boasts an impressive resume as a multiple-time K-1 World Champion, establishing himself as one of the top pound-for-pound kickboxers globally. His journey to martial arts stardom began in China's sanda circuit, where he honed his skills before transitioning to kickboxing in 2013.
Wei Rui quickly made his mark in the kickboxing world, dominating regional competitions and earning a reputation as a formidable force in the sport. However, it was his victory in the K-1 World Grand Prix Lightweight Championship Tournament in February 2017 that truly solidified his status as a standout athlete.
Despite relinquishing his K-1 title in March 2018, Wei Rui has since embarked on an impressive 20-fight winning streak, defeating notable opponents such as Wang Pengfei, Kongnapa Weerasakreck, and Daizo Sasaki.
Excited about the new chapter in his career, Wei Rui expressed his eagerness to compete against the best fighters on the global stage. "ONE Championship is the best combat sports promotion. It's the right platform for me," he stated.
Wei Rui is set to compete in ONE Championship's bantamweight kickboxing division, joining a talented roster that includes two-sport World Champion Jonathan Haggerty. While a specific debut date has yet to be announced, fans can anticipate seeing Wei Rui showcase his skills under the ONE banner later this year.
