According to Charles Oliveira, he won't be prepared in time to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 in October. Charles Oliveira returned to winning ways earlier this year in grand style.
In their title eliminator battle, he defeated Beneil Dariush to qualify for a rematch with Islam Makhachev.
As many fans will recall, Makhachev succeeded in unseating 'Do Bronx' and winning the UFC lightweight title last year.
Oliveira has been waiting for the chance to make an effort to get it back. Although he had to work for it, he appears to have a good chance of succeeding.
It appeared as though a new confrontation in Abu Dhabi was the logical choice. Oliveira stated in an interview during International Fight Week that it now appears he won't be able to make that date.
“So, I’m gonna be honest with you, we don’t have an offer yet. We are still waiting, but to be honest, in October, it’s too soon for me.
It’s too soon, especially if the fight is gonna be there. I’m really gonna be ready in November, December, but October, it’s too soon.”
Then, Charles was questioned about his willingness to postpone getting his shot until the next year.
“I’ll be honest with you, I just need to wait. I’m a UFC employee, so I just need to wait. For me, it doesn’t matter. The one thing I can tell you for sure is I’m not ready for a fight in October. But November, December, I will be ready. So, I’m just waiting. Let’s see what they’re gonna do.”
