Carlos Prates Stuns Neil Magny with Knockout in UFC Vegas 100, Eyes Big Matchup Next
Carlos Prates

Carlos Prates continued his remarkable rise in the UFC with a devastating one-punch knockout against seasoned veteran Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100. In his debut main event, Prates made a powerful statement by taking out the experienced Magny with a brutal left hook in the final seconds of the first round. The explosive finish marked Prates’ fourth consecutive knockout win in the UFC, all coming in 2024, establishing him as a force to watch in the welterweight division.

The bout began with Magny’s attempts to control Prates with grappling and takedowns, but Prates showcased impressive resilience and skill, resisting each attempt. Prates not only defended Magny’s grappling advances but also executed a smooth reversal, setting the stage for his striking advantage. Opting to bring the fight back to the feet, Prates evaded Magny’s next attempt to close the distance and unleashed a lightning-fast right hand, sending Magny down. Magny tried to recover but found himself cornered against the cage, with Prates closing in for the finish.

As Magny ducked, Prates timed a left hook perfectly, landing it squarely on Magny’s head and sending him face-first to the canvas. The fight was stopped at 4:50 of Round 1, marking Prates’ fourth UFC win by knockout. Reflecting on his stellar year, Prates expressed his elation:

“Feeling awesome. This year was so far the best year of my life, of my career. It’s a lot of hard work. I can’t explain how happy I am right now.”

With momentum building, Prates has his sights set on bigger challenges. He openly expressed interest in a fight in Australia against Jack Della Maddalena, inspired by his connection to the country through his daughter.

“Fight there in Australia against Jack Della Maddalena. All respect to this guy,” Prates said, also noting that a matchup with Geoff Neal could be another thrilling option.

Either way, Prates is eager to continue his impressive run in the octagon.
