In a battle between two top-10 UFC middleweights, Caio Borralho showcased his grappling superiority over Brendan Allen in a special attraction match at Karate Combat 53 in Seattle.
Despite Allen stepping into the contest just six days after a grueling loss to Anthony Hernandez at UFC Seattle, he couldn't find a way past Borralho's relentless control. Borralho secured a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards, winning both rounds by unanimous decision.
Before the match even started, Borralho won over the crowd, tossing out pairs of Fighting Nerds glasses to the fans. Once the action commenced, he wasted no time asserting his grappling dominance.
Borralho quickly utilized a collar tie, countering Allen’s single-leg takedown attempt by trapping him in a guillotine choke. Allen managed to escape, leading to a brief standing exchange before he attempted another single-leg takedown, only for Borralho to defend effortlessly. After a scramble, Borralho secured full mount momentarily and transitioned into a kimura attempt, but Allen managed to defend as the first round ended.
As the second round unfolded, Borralho took Allen down, securing full mount once again. Allen showed his resilience by escaping and briefly gaining top position, but Borralho quickly reversed, regaining control with another dominant back take.
The two exchanged smiles, acknowledging the competitive spirit of the match before Borralho sealed the victory with yet another backcontrol to close out the contest.
This latest win further cements Borralho’s reputation as a surging contender in the middleweight division. In his most recent UFC bout, he defeated Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC Vegas 96, pushing his UFC record to 7-0 and extending his overall win streak to 16 fights.
