Cain Velasquez Sentenced to 5 Years – But Every Father Knows Why He Did It

Today, Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for doing what almost every father on the planet would’ve done in the heat of that moment—defend his child.

Let’s be clear. Did Cain pull the trigger? Yes.

Did someone get shot who wasn’t the target? Yes.

But was Cain wrong? Absolutely not.

In February 2022, Velasquez—former UFC heavyweight champion and one of the most respected athletes in the sport—was pushed past his breaking point. After learning that a man accused of sexually abusing his 4-year-old son was released from jail, Cain did what the system failed to do. He took action.

He chased down the vehicle carrying the alleged predator, Harry Goularte, and fired multiple shots into the car. Unfortunately, it was Goularte’s stepfather who was struck. That’s where the law draws its hard line. That’s why Cain was sentenced to five years today.

But ask any father. Ask any man with blood in his veins. Ask any fighter who’s ever had to protect their family when no one else would: Would you have done the same thing?

Most of us wouldn’t just say yes—we’d say hell yes.

Cain expressed regret in court, acknowledging that he endangered others. He stood up and took responsibility like a man, like a champion. But let’s not pretend that Cain Velasquez woke up that day looking for trouble. He was trying to stop a nightmare—one that no child should ever face and no father should have to endure knowing it was avoidable.

The justice system let that predator walk out of jail. Cain just did what the system didn’t have the guts to do.

We at FIGHT.TV stand with Cain. And we know we’re not alone.

From fighters to fans, from warriors to working dads—we’re all in Cain’s corner. He may have shot the wrong guy, but he wasn’t in the wrong. This wasn’t about revenge. It was about protection. It was about love. It was about the unbreakable bond between a father and his child.

To Cain: You’ve fought in cages, in rings, in octagons—and now you’re fighting behind bars. But don’t for one second think you’re alone. You’ve got an army behind you. One made of fighters, fathers, and anyone who’s ever known what it means to protect your own.

We stand with Cain. Every father does.

Stay strong, champ. We’re with you.
