The Ultimate Fighting Championship is expected to announce its next big event and it's set to be a showdown between two of the top light heavyweight contenders. On May 13, Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker will square off in the five-round main event, promising an explosive and thrilling match.
Although the fighters have verbal terms and conditions, MMA Ideas initially stated that the destination and site for the clash have not yet been revealed. The reservation has since been confirmed by other news sources.
With a record of 36 wins and 17 losses, Smith is a seasoned veteran of the octagon and a former title challenger. The Nebraska native is looking to make a statement and work his way back to a title shot. Jamahal Hill and Smith were supposed to compete in March, however, those preparations were abandoned as Hill agreed to compete in the UFC 283 championship versus Glover Teixeira. As in result, Smith assisted Hill in getting ready for the contest, which he went on to win by a wide margin to win the UFC light heavyweight championship.
The former contender for the light heavyweight belt will be attempting to recover from a TKO loss to Magomed Ankalaev last year. Smith had been on a three-fight undefeated streak before the loss, during which he sustained a leg injury, having defeated Devin Clark, Jimmy Crute, and Ryan Spann.
In a recent appearance at UFC 283, Johnny Walker defeated Paul Craig with a stunning first-round knockout. After defeating Craig and Ion Cutelaba, the 30-year-old Brazilian will look to extend his unbeaten record. Walker, the No. 7-ranked light heavyweight, is 3-2 in his previous five matches and, with a victory over Smith, may enter the title picture.
This highly anticipated match will be a test for both fighters, as they look to prove their worth and climb the ranks of the light heavyweight division. The two fighters have different styles, which will make for an intriguing match-up. Smith's well-rounded game and grappling abilities will be put to the test against Walker's powerful striking and knockout power.
Mark your calendars for May 13, as Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker are set to bring the heat in what promises to be an unforgettable night of UFC action.
