Brandon Moreno Outstrikes Steve Erceg, Eyes Noche UFC Return After UFC Mexico Victory

Brandon Moreno delivered a thrilling performance in front of his home fans, securing a unanimous decision victory over Steve Erceg in the main event of UFC Mexico. The former flyweight champion showcased his superior striking over five rounds, outworking Erceg and overcoming past struggles in Mexico City to get his long-awaited win on home soil finally.

Although the fight wasn’t entirely one-sided, Moreno’s ability to dictate the pace and land the cleaner shots gave him the edge on the scorecards. Coming into this bout, Moreno had gone 0-2-1 in his previous UFC appearances in Mexico, making this win a crucial one for his career. The judges scored the contest 49-46 in his favor, marking his second consecutive victory following a break after back-to-back losses.

With his hand raised once again, Moreno is already setting his sights on the future. His next priority isn’t necessarily a specific opponent but rather a spot on the UFC 320 card, which will take place in Mexico on September 13 for the next Noche UFC event.

“I’ve gone through so much to be here. I know how hard it is for so many of you to get a ticket to be here. This is all for you,” Moreno passionately told the crowd. “Hunter [Campbell], who really knows what I deserve? I don’t know what I deserve. But I really believe I can move the needle and let’s go for the pay-per-view in Guadalajara. Let’s fcking go. Let’s fcking do it!”

Moreno’s performance, while not flawless, was effective. He consistently landed crisp punches, pushing the pace and keeping Erceg on the defensive. Erceg had his moments, landing well-timed uppercuts and straight punches, but struggled to mount a sustained offense against Moreno’s relentless attacks.

Throughout the fight, Moreno kept pressing forward, tagging Erceg with quick combinations and power shots. A well-placed head kick in the final round sent the crowd into a frenzy, though the fight eventually stalled as both fighters hit the canvas. Still, Moreno’s aggressive approach and superior work rate ensured he stayed ahead on the scorecards.

Erceg, despite the loss, showed resilience and vowed to return stronger.

“I thought I landed pretty well but obviously it wasn’t enough,” Erceg said. “I went five rounds, I’ll keep getting better. I’ll get back.”

Now, all eyes are on Moreno’s next move. As one of the most beloved Mexican fighters and a former champion, it seems likely that his request for a spot at UFC 320 will be granted. The only question that remains is who he will face in what promises to be another exciting bout on Mexican soil.
