Belal Muhammad’s anticipated title defense at UFC 310 will have to wait. The reigning welterweight champion broke the news on Thursday that he will no longer face Shavkat Rakhmonov, citing a serious bone infection in his foot. This unfortunate setback, first reported by Al Zullino on Twitter, has left fans disappointed and the fight card in need of a new direction.

In his social media update, Muhammad revealed,

“Caught a bone infection in my foot. Had to put a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line in my arm for IV antibiotics the next six weeks with no physical activity. Allah’s plan is the best plan. I’m sorry to everyone that were coming to see me. I’ll be back soon. Inshallah.”

The infection requires Muhammad to undergo a six-week treatment period, sidelining him from any physical training. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Rakhmonov will still compete on December 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas or if his bout will be rescheduled for another date and venue.

Muhammad, known by fans as Remember the Name, has been on an incredible run, remaining unbeaten in his last 11 bouts and claiming the welterweight title after his recent victory over Leon Edwards at UFC 304 in July. The champion’s six-year undefeated streak has made his withdrawal a major disappointment for fans who were looking forward to his first title defense.

On the other hand, Shavkat Rakhmonov, also known as “Nomad,” has been on a flawless journey himself, with an 18-0 record where he has finished every opponent. His last triumph, a submission win over Stephen Thompson, secured him a shot at the title, a moment he was eagerly awaiting at UFC 310.

Following Muhammad’s announcement, Rakhmonov responded with respect and understanding, expressing well-wishes for his opponent and indicating he is still open to competing at UFC 310, even suggesting an interim title fight. This shows Rakhmonov’s readiness to step into the Octagon, with or without the current champion.

As UFC seeks a potential replacement for Rakhmonov, fans continue to anticipate what might come next in this thrilling division. Will Rakhmonov find another opponent, or will the title fight be postponed?
