Arman Tsarukyan Eyes Business Over Legacy with Potential UFC 311 Title Win

Arman Tsarukyan Eyes Business Over Legacy with Potential UFC 311 Title Win

Arman Tsarukyan is on the brink of a career-defining moment. With a record of 22-3, he is set to challenge reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (26-1) in the main event of UFC 311 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. While this fight represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, Tsarukyan’s plans may surprise fans and pundits alike.

Initially, Tsarukyan emphasized the importance of legacy, stating that outside of Charles Oliveira, no other contender was deserving of a title shot. However, his priorities shift dramatically if he emerges victorious against Makhachev. Speaking on the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast, Tsarukyan revealed,

“When I win the title, the sports thing is done. It’s going to start being just business, and I’m going to pick with who UFC pays me more.”

Rather than focusing on defending his title multiple times or achieving the elusive status of a double champion, Tsarukyan plans to prioritize lucrative fights.

“After this fight, when I’m champion, I’m just going to think about money, not about being a two-time champion or defending 10 times. I’m just going to think about money fights,” he explained.

Tsarukyan even mentioned the possibility of stepping away from the sport entirely, depending on his father’s wishes, leaving his post-title future uncertain.

Meanwhile, Makhachev approaches UFC 311 with an entirely different mindset. The dominant champion aims to solidify his legacy by securing a record-breaking fourth title defense in the lightweight division and handing Tsarukyan his third UFC loss.

With contrasting philosophies heading into the bout, Tsarukyan’s aspirations for financial security and Makhachev’s quest for historical greatness add a unique layer of intrigue to the UFC 311 main event. Regardless of the outcome, this fight could mark a turning point for the lightweight division.
