Anthony Joshua Calls Out Tyson Fury for 2025 Clash

The boxing world is buzzing once again as Anthony Joshua, the former two-time heavyweight champion, has publicly expressed his desire to face Tyson Fury in what could be the most significant heavyweight bout of the modern era. Speaking during a visit to Nigeria, the birthplace of his parents, Joshua emphasized that a fight with Fury is inevitable and must take place in 2025.

“Of course, it has to happen, and hopefully, it does happen,” Joshua told SportsBoom.com. “I’ve been involved in a whole lot of fights, but this has to happen in 2025.”

The Fight Fans Deserve

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, reiterated that a Joshua-Fury matchup remains the only genuinely massive fight left for both boxers. The two British heavyweights have captured the imaginations of fans worldwide with their distinct personalities and styles, and the clash has been a dream for boxing enthusiasts for years. Despite their individual losses to Oleksandr Usyk—the man widely regarded as one of the greatest technical fighters of this generation—a Joshua-Fury bout remains unparalleled in its allure.

There’s even speculation about the possibility of not just one, but two fights between Joshua and Fury, with mega-money to be made for both competitors. These bouts could cement their legacies while giving fans closure on one of boxing’s most long-awaited rivalries.

Why This Fight Matters

Aside from a potential showdown between Joshua and Deontay Wilder—a fight that arguably should have occurred before Wilder’s first loss to Fury in 2020—Joshua versus Fury is the defining heavyweight match-up of its time. Both fighters have held multiple world titles and dominated the division, and their contrasting styles make the prospect of their meeting even more compelling. Joshua’s disciplined power-punching approach would face off against Fury’s unorthodox movement and psychological warfare.

The Ball is in Fury’s Court

While Joshua’s intentions are clear, all eyes are now on Fury. Will “The Gypsy King,” known for his flamboyant proclamations and often unpredictable career decisions, step up to the challenge? Fury has famously declared that “no man born from his mother could ever beat me,” but stepping into the ring with Joshua would test that boast like never before.

Fury, who has hinted at retirement multiple times, might find the lure of another massive payday hard to resist. Saudi Arabia, known for hosting blockbuster combat sports events, could offer enormous financial incentives through figures like Turki Alalshikh. Still, questions linger about Fury’s willingness to risk his undefeated status in marquee fights, especially after his trilogy with Wilder and victories against lesser opposition.

Will the Fight Happen?

The anticipation for this bout is palpable, but the ball firmly lies in Fury’s court. The boxing community now awaits his response. Will he rise to the occasion and agree to a showdown that could define an era, or will he opt for retirement, leaving fans to wonder what could have been?

As Joshua aptly stated, “this fight has to happen.” For the sake of their legacies and the sport of boxing, let’s hope Fury shares the sentiment. The countdown to 2025 has officially begun.
