The blockbuster card for ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug just got even more exciting with the addition of a high-stakes heavyweight MMA showdown that could determine the next World Title challenger. On November 8, Iranian knockout artist Amir Aliakbari will face off against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. This matchup is a classic clash of styles, making it one of the most anticipated bouts on the card.
Aliakbari, a former Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion, is known for his explosive power and devastating knockout ability. With 10 knockouts in 14 career victories, the 36-year-old thrives on delivering heavy punches both standing and on the ground. His recent form is red-hot, coming into the fight on the back of four consecutive wins. Aliakbari’s last loss came in 2021 against reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Anatoly “Sladkiy” Malykhin, and he's eager to earn a shot at redemption by securing another crack at the title.
On the other side, "Buchecha" Almeida is widely regarded as one of the greatest BJJ practitioners of all time. The 34-year-old Brazilian has quickly made his mark in MMA with a 4-1 record in ONE Championship, showcasing elite finishing ability through three submissions and one TKO. However, Almeida is coming off the first loss of his MMA career in a wild fight against “Reug Reug” Oumar Kane, the same man headlining this event against Malykhin for the heavyweight gold.
Almeida will be looking to bounce back and reignite his claim for a title shot, but standing in his way is the knockout specialist Aliakbari. The Iranian will need to be cautious of “Buchecha’s” world-class submission game, but if he can keep the fight standing or control the ground exchanges, his power could be the deciding factor.
Both fighters have a lot on the line. A win for either man could put them next in line for a shot at the heavyweight crown. With Malykhin defending his title in the main event, the November 8 clash between Aliakbari and Almeida could very well shape the future of the division.
