Adriano Moraes vs. Yuya Wakamatsu: ONE Flyweight Title Rematch Set for Japan
Adriano Moraes

ONE Championship is set to make its mark in Japan once again with an electrifying night of action. On March 23, the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama will host ONE Championship 172, featuring the highly anticipated flyweight title rematch between Brazil’s Adriano Moraes and Japan’s own Yuya Wakamatsu.

Moraes (21-5), the former flyweight champion, previously defeated Wakamatsu (18-6) in March 2022 with a third-round submission. That victory marked his last successful title defense before facing back-to-back defeats against the now-retired Demetrious Johnson. Now, with the belt vacant, both fighters have their eyes on reclaiming glory.

Wakamatsu has been on an impressive comeback trail, earning another shot at the title after winning three consecutive fights since 2023. He showcased his knockout power against Wei Xie and followed it up with dominant decision victories over Danny Kingad and Gilbert Nakatani. This winning streak has set the stage for a thrilling rematch with Moraes, where redemption and gold are on the line.

While Moraes and Wakamatsu battle for the flyweight crown, the event’s main attraction will feature a five-round kickboxing clash between striking icons Takeru Segawa and Rodtang Jitmuangnon. This monumental showdown has fans buzzing with excitement.

ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong highlighted the magnitude of the event, stating:

“ONE Championship will head to Japan for the fourth time, and I am excited to bring one of the biggest kickboxing fights in history to Saitama Super Arena. Takeru is a kickboxing icon, revered for his supreme skill and fighting spirit. Rodtang is the world’s most popular striking superstar and one of the greatest muay Thai fighters of all time. I can’t wait to finally witness this spectacular fight in ONE Championship. Plus, former flyweight MMA king Adriano Moraes and Japan’s own Yuya Wakamatsu will face off for the vacant ONE flyweight MMA world title. I’m excited to see who will succeed Demetrious Johnson as the undisputed king of the division.”

With a stacked card and championship stakes, ONE Championship 172 promises to be an unforgettable night of martial arts excellence in Japan.
