Former ONE Championship flyweight champion Adriano Moraes is set to make a triumphant return to the cage after more than a year away from competition. On November 8, Moraes will step back into the spotlight to face Danny Kingad in a highly anticipated rematch at ONE 169, scheduled to take place in Atlanta.
ONE Championship officials confirmed this exciting matchup, signaling Moraes’ comeback after a challenging period in his career. The Brazilian fighter is returning after back-to-back losses to Demetrious Johnson, completing their thrilling trilogy. Moraes initially shocked the world by knocking out Johnson in 2021, defending his flyweight title in a remarkable fashion. However, Johnson evened the score with a knockout of his own in their 2022 rematch and then secured a unanimous decision victory in their final encounter in May 2023. Since that defeat, Moraes has been out of action, but he's now ready to reignite his career.
Standing in Moraes’ way is Danny Kingad, a formidable opponent who has been a mainstay in the ONE flyweight division since his debut in 2016. Kingad and Moraes first met in 2017 when they fought for the flyweight title. Moraes emerged victorious with a first-round submission, handing Kingad his first defeat in ONE Championship. Despite the loss, Kingad bounced back impressively, winning six consecutive fights and establishing himself as a top contender.
Kingad's journey also led him to face Johnson in the finals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix in 2019, where he fell short. Since then, he has gone 2-2 in his last four bouts, but he remains a dangerous threat in the division.
Now, almost seven years after their initial clash, Moraes and Kingad will meet again in the cage. This rematch promises to be a thrilling battle as both fighters seek redemption and a path back to the top of the flyweight division. The fight will also mark the second ONE Championship card held in the United States in 2024, following an event scheduled in Denver in September.
