Aaron Pico has officially entered free agency, allowing him to explore offers from different promotions. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean he is leaving the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that Pico’s exclusive negotiating period with PFL has ended, allowing him to test the market. Despite this, PFL retains the right to match any competing offers he receives. John Morgan was the first to report the news.
Pico, a longtime staple in Bellator, fought 16 times under the promotion before it was acquired by PFL in November 2023. Since the transition, he has competed once for PFL, securing a first-round TKO victory over Henry Corrales in a rematch from their 2019 bout. This win not only avenged a previous loss but also reaffirmed his status as one of the top featherweights outside of the UFC.
After suffering back-to-back stoppage losses in 2019, Pico made an impressive turnaround, winning nine of his next ten fights, with seven of those victories coming via finish. The 28-year-old Jackson-Wink product is currently on a three-fight win streak, further solidifying his value as a top free agent in the sport.
Pico’s future remains uncertain, but the UFC could be a strong possibility. Following UFC 311 last month, UFC CEO Dana White told reporters that the promotion’s matchmakers were “definitely” interested in bringing Pico into the fold.
With his skill set and recent success, Pico is expected to be a highly sought-after fighter as he weighs his next move in MMA.
