PFL 6 is taking place on Friday at Atlanta's Overtime Elite Arena. The women's lightweight and welterweight are in action for the second time this year.
Two-time champion Kayla Harrison is returning for her second regular season fight. With 3 points in the standings, she finds herself tied with three others. Harrison will face Kaitlin Young in the main event. Young is fighting for the first time this season and competed on short notice to replace Julia Budd.
In fact, two-time champion Kayla Harrison was originally booked by Julia Budd. But she had to withdraw from the match when Julia Budd withdrew due to injury, which will see Kayla Harrison join her new rival, Kaitlin Young.
ESPN was the first to report a change of heart. As of this writing, the nature of Budd's injury is unknown.
Budd was a longtime Bellator MMA member before jumping into the PFL last year. She was a Bellator featherweight champion in her time there and successfully defended her title three times.
Budd's replacement, Kaitlin Young, has a 12-12 Pro MMA record, the last to beat Budd last year by consensus.
A former Bellator featherweight champion, Budd's 2022 season did not start as planned, as she handed over a three-round decision to overweight Fabian in PFL 3. In the ranking due to the low weight of its opponent. Budd is 16-4 during her career, her other three defeats being against Cristiane Justino, Ronda Rousey, and Amanda Nunes.
Harrison improved her professional mark to 13-0 in PFL 3 on May 6, as she set out for a unanimous victory over Mokhnatkina. The two-time Olympic gold medalist has won all but one of her victories under the PFL banner and has completed 10 of them within a distance.
